We’re hosting a giveaway to help our readers find the perfect Christmas present for that special someone — artwork created by a talented Houston teen (value $30). Here’s the story behind the art:
If you follow us on Twitter, you know that Healthy Houston Kids (HHK) is a big fan of Neighborhood Centers and their work. In August, we were invited to tour the Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center and it’s back-to-school health fair.
During the tour we learned about a program for teens that encourages community involvement. To fund their program, the teens made art that later was auctioned. The money raised from each piece went directly to support each student’s $30 yearly center membership. Being a soft touch for kid’s art, we bid on a lovely piece and won. Now, we offer you the chance to win this original artwork and support a good cause.
You don’t have to take our word for how great this program is. They received national recognition in October from Our Neighborhood 2111: Youth Visioning Project for a video the group created. You can also read what the teens said about the program.

A winner will be drawn on Sunday, December 11 so enter by midnight on Saturday, December 10. We’ve extended the contest by a week thanks to Neighborhood Centers! Deadline is now Saturday, Dec. 17 with the winner announced on Sunday, Dec. 18.
